Dorsuleski – Ashby Wedding – St. Peter & Paul Macedonian Banquet Hall – Crown Point, Indiana – Uplighting
For only providing uplighting, it was a real treat to take in the experiences of the Dorsuleski – Ashby Wedding at St. Peter & Paul Macedonian Banquet Hall in Crown Point, Indiana.
One of the experiences was the traditional pig dance which symbolizes fortune for the future. They started off with high energy from “Glad You Came” for the wedding party introductions, followed by the first dance, and getting loose to “Feel So Close” by Calvin Harris before cutting the cake, but those were only a prelude to what was about to come. Out comes all the groomsmen in chef’s hats with spoons and ladles, but the first two had a stuffed pig they were “raising the roof” with. This followed with being paraded between the head tables and dance floor and being showered with money by the godparents or “Kum and Kuma.” The Kum and Kuma also gave the best man a necklace made of money that reminded me of a Flava Flav clock. Many people got up and danced as the pig and groomsmen circled on the dance floor.
After dinner was the traditional bread dance which was another new experience. The bread or “koluk” is round like a wedding band to signify there is no beginning or end. It was held over guests heads as they danced in a giant circle and the bride and groom ended up breaking it. The person with the bigger half would be the head of the household . The bread was then served along with the cake for dessert. This was similar to the priest breaking off bread from a huge loaf and handing it out to all the family and wedding party between the wedding ceremony and reception.
Closing out the night the Mak Band was out playing their instruments (clarinet, saxophone, tapan (drum), accordion, and violin) with the wedding dancers and guests while getting showered with tips. The bride and groom were dancing on chairs while everyone crowded around them and some even joined them on those chairs throughout the song.

The venue, St. Peter & Paul Macedonian Banquet Hall put “Here’s to you, Congrats Pere & Christina” on their large marquee out front so everyone on Broadway in Crown Point knew of this occasion. They also commented on how beautiful the uplighting was that evening and took a few business cards for future occasions.
